The Belle Isle Casino

Over the years there has been much confusion about certainly one of Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but uses the old sense of the saying, a spot for "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this specific purpose since the original structure was integrated the 1880s, in the role of a gathering spot for Detroiters for generations.

The first building to get called the Casino was built in 1887, as Belle Isle was being turned into a municipal park. It was constructed to keep events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor principal purpose is to do as well. The original building burnt down in early 1900s.

The original building was replaced in 1907 using a building developed by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued to serve its function successfully for more than 10 years now, and its particular future seems to become secure well in the future, despite the problems that Belle Isle has already established in recent years.
